Shayla, your words truly spoke from your heart. Yancey was truly a blessing in your life, and never stop writing about your love for your Dad. It inspires us all.
Just lost my mom in January then my aunt (her sister) in June. I’m writing this coming off of a horribly low week as I reflected on them both. Their birthdays are this month. As you know some days the memory of them hits hard. Ride it out. There are people lifting you—he’s one of them, so is my mom and now me. I needed your words. I don’t even know how I found you here. You were loved well. 🙂💜
Hi DeShawn, thank you so much for your comment. I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is the worst club to join, as well as a beloved aunt. I'm glad my words helped you and please feel free to come back to my substack!
Please keep writing! This is beautiful and it may be a healing experience for you. Hoping you have peace in this time. I can only imagine what it would be like to lose a father. My dad is getting older and has health problems, and this inspired me to really make the most of my time with him! Thank you :)
GREAT TRIBUTE (as always) to your Dad. I AM grateful to him (& your Mom) for your creation & instilling the importance of history. The history of our ancestors on the roads they traveled making a way for us today and the sacrifices made.
Now more than ever we (baby boomers, gen z's, millennials, etc) owe that "silent generation" an immeasurable debt of gratitude by continuing the fight to protect our civil rights.
Thank you for his "history" lessons and Thank you Great Spirit for placing Yancey Freeland Martin into my family 🙏🏽❤️✊🏽
I enjoyed reading this I’m sorry for your loss… my heart goes out to you and your family, it’s great to know that he lived such a life. His life was outstanding, one could say he lived many lives all in one and I think thats special.
Aww very touching story, I’m sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing the highlights of his life and your lives together with us. May god be with his soul and May your grief become relief soon, he is in a better place.
